with a grateful heart

It is not easy to live with a grateful heart in times of difficultues even for a Christian who has been baptised for many years. As a human being, we have emotions and to count blessings in such a period of time is hard … and when I finally have overcome my difficulties, I realised there were so many angels and supportive friends along the way. Through prayers, I learned to hold my chin up when I am perplexed. I have to admit I cried quite a lot when the road felt bumpy and discouraging, but that kind of feeling didn’t last long when I remember that God always looked after the sparrows and the wildflowers which no one is particularly assigned to attend to.

There are so many coincidences that I will treasure as they were signs that God gave me as to guide me into the path most comfortable and suited to me. Though I would not one by one describe them here, I knew that He is really our AWESOME God!

Chase

let’s chase after
every
second
in life
and make it full and meaningful
so in our quiet silence
we will smile at our silly decisions
and be proud of the cheery ones
which made us just who we are

[for a friend who reminded me to chase after dreams! : ))))]

The Stage of Reclamation

Central, Hong Kong
[Central, Hong Kong]

I took a series of photos of the reclamation in Hong Kong quite a few weeks ago. Every time I walk on the bridge connecting IFC and the new Star Ferry Pier, there are bound to be people leaning against the railing observing the movements of cranes and workers or staring into the piles of steel. Those elderly, with their careful eyes and concentration, watched the changes of the scene as if a play was staged. I have walked on the bridge for many many times and I would just turn my neck towards that stage to look at the things i have missed in between the days I don’t get to look at. I would feel guilty if I didn’t have a camera with me to catch the moments of changes. Finally, after much efforts, I took black and white photos of this Stage of Reclamation. There’s so much to look at …

Otaru, Hokkaido
[lunch at Otaru, Hokkaido]

I haven’t described my journey to Hokkaido so let me write a few words about it. Well, this lunch was really special for me because within the 24 hours prior to that lunch, I was terribly ill, vomitted for sooo many times that I can hardly remember. Fortunately, I felt much better and could continue my trip at Otaru to look at the snow gleaming festival. Me and HY sat down at this shop because we were far too hungry to continue in the cold weather! Before we entered for lunch, we actually spent so much of our energy in creating music boxes : )))

Otaru is special for its seafood … so having this combo with rice and a further bowl of crab soup was just perfect for two of us! After our sumptuous meal, we headed off to shopping and photographing of glass and food until we reached the Romantic Crossroad! We went into Le Tao, a confectionary, and climbed up the stairs to view this crossroad and its surrouding environment.

things

  • i have so many books on my shelf that i haven’t read despite i had so many reasons for buying them when i saw them sitting on the shelves in bookstores.
  • i have so many old things in my drawers, cupboards, under my bed that i keep not willing to throw away
  • i have 21 frames in my corner … displaying photos and artwork
  • i have a trunk of drawers … those filing types to put my artstuff in

lunch gathering

i had lunch with one of the lecturers of my course. it was a very interesting lunch … lots to think about … how lawyers are trained to think negatively because they need to draft agreements or argued with the worst scenarios in mind … how to cope with the economic crisis … how to merge the skills and knowledge we acquired and develop it into a new skill … how would life be after starting work … worries and rewards … how to take risks, why take risks … lawyers don’t like taking risks … quite ‘scare to die’ …

I had a feeling that one day I will my dreams will come in a full ‘circle’.

Let’s wait for it to come

theory of roasted barbecue pork

roasted barbecue pork is one of favourite Chinese dishes
i love it ever since i first tasted the roasted barbecue pork
roasted barbecue pork is usually hung up on rails in Chinese restaurant so that customers can have a look whether it is of good ‘colour’ and quality
the hanging also allows the honey to drip around the body of the roasted barbecue pork so it will be evenly spread
because it is hung up on the rail that customers can notice and observe the differences between the pieces of roasted barbecue pork, whether it is too burnt or not
becuase there are so many pieces of roasted barbecue pork, a patient customer will be able to pick a piece that they perceptively prefer
the taste of the roasted barbecue pork may be quite similar but it is the time lapse between the choosing and the consuming which makes the experience of eating

well, i really miss Sydney for many reasons:
i miss the Harbour Bridge … I miss the lovely walk across the Bridge to my church at Milson’s Point
i miss the beaches and sunsets
i miss the juicy fruits
i miss my bible study group mates
i miss the chats with church mates till someone decided to turn off the lights
i miss life being at leisure, being at peace
i miss life being simple and straight-forward
i miss life with less intrusions
i miss life when i feel satisfied and fulfilled

Harbour Bridge, Sydney

there’s just something missing
and i want to fill up that void

Justice

Genesis 18:22-33 (New International Version)

22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.
23 Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 The LORD said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27 Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?”
”If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”

29 Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?”
He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

30 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?”
He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

31 Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?”
He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”

32 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”
He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.
My cousin has a friend who bought a Blythe doll and the clothes of the doll was contaminated with the dye … which obviously caused the doll to look quite unlike its original appearance. The friend had another friend, a law student, who later helped out and said a few words to the shopkeeper … as the situation went quite unfriendly … my cousin’s friend did not get what she wanted ie. a replacement of the body of the doll and further, her ’law’ friend also backed out to help her.

As i am no longer so interested to be on the msn nowadays … believing if friends have to find you, they will find you in one way or the other … and just after Christmas … i was online waiting to see which friend might give me a Christmas wish or two. Anyway, it turns out that no one gave me one … but just before i got offline, my cousin gave me a yell, and spontaneously i replied to all her questions and helped her friend … though i should be studying hard for exams, haha!

I told her friend to write a demand letter and if that doesn’t work, then she could sue the shopkeeper at the Small Claims Tribunal. Her friend was happy because I helped her in this way … in terms of free advice, you see. Though no legal representation is needed in the Small Claims Tribunal, i was willing to help because putting her situation in my own shoes, I would feel equally angry and upset if my cameras or lenses went wrong and the shopkeeper refuses to address my problems fairly. I was thinking that I should love my neighbour as I love myself.

Today, my cousin sent me another email as to proof read the demand letter, i suddenly remember the topic of ’access to justice’ in my first year of uni. I remember how adamant i was that people can easily open a list of lawyers and go out searching for help … but actually people are confused with the legal system, they do not know where to start and what people can help them. They might not know that there are legal services at the District Council office to help them. It is the problem when they remain silent as to their own problems or feel to overwhelmed with the legal system which becomes the real problem.

As i went through the daily bread passage below, i thought about the question of justice again. Well, I don’t know whether my cousin’s friend will get what she wants in the end. It is sooooo true that ‘the best judges on this each aren’t always right or fair; But God, the Righteous Judge of all, Wrongs no one in His care’.

Re-reading the passage from Genesis, our God gives people chances to turn back from their wrongs … He is a God who is willing and always ready to forgive our sins! It is only when we continue in our wrongs that we hurt His heart and chooses to punish us. God is always faithful to those who believe in Him. Thank you for being a righteous God.

I also want to say thanks to You because you have answered my prayer – i remember i kept on asking You why i should pursue law since July. Today, you have made me reflect on the reason I chose law after graduating high school … because there’s injustice in our society and being a Christian, i am duty bound to shine like a Christian and treat the friends and people I meet with a gracious spirit.

From Dailybread

John Grisham is well known for his courtroom novels—fast-paced tales of lawyers and victims, authorities and wrongdoers. However, his book The Innocent Man is not fiction. It is a real-life story of injustice. It tells of the brutal murder of a young woman and the two men who, though innocent, were convicted and sentenced to death for the crime. Only with the advent of DNA testing were they proven innocent and spared from execution after 17 years of suffering wrongly. At long last, justice prevailed.

Everyone desires justice. But we must recognize that our human frailty makes it challenging to mete out true justice. And we can be bent toward revenge, making a casualty out of the pursuit of it.

It’s helpful to remember that perfect justice can be found only in God. Abraham described Him with the rhetorical question, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Gen. 18:25). The necessary answer is yes. But even more, His courtroom is the one and only place where we can be certain that justice will prevail.

In a world filled with injustice, we can take the wrongs done to us, submit them to the Judge of all the earth, and trust Him for ultimate justice.  — Bill Crowder

The best of judges on this earth
Aren’t always right or fair;
But God, the Righteous Judge of all,
Wrongs no one in His care. —Egner

Life is not always fair, but God is always faithful.
